The 5th International Meeting for Members of Parliaments was held on Sunday 22 September 2013 in Beijing, China in conjunction with the 64th International Astronautical Congress.

In pursuing this initiative, the IAF is offering to Members of Parliaments from all over the world a well-defined and organized platform for a dialogue with the traditional space community on a global scale.

The MP's event gives the opportunity to provide a forum for discussions with the international space community (governmental representatives, space agencies, industry, universities, engineers and scientists). The event offers an opportunity for parliamentarians from non-governing parties to discuss the potential of current and future space technologies to deal with key topics of major and global interest.

The focus topic of this fifth meeting was “Benefits of Space Technology for Economic Growth and Competitiveness of Industry”.

The one-day MP's programme offers keynote addresses from three distinguished guest speakers to address the importance of space technology for economic growth and for competitiveness of industry. An integrated overview of space technologies available today, their potential and some other concrete examples relevant for policy makers will be offered to the audience.

The social programme of this event included a Welcome Cocktail on Saturday 21 September evening in the Intercontinental Hotel, a Dinner on Sunday 22 September evening with the participation of Heads of Space Agencies and a technical tour to the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) on Tuesday 24 September.

Furthermore, Members of Parliaments were invited to be guests of honour at the Opening Ceremony of the IAC on Monday 23 September 2013.
